If you’re like me and can’t get enough of Old Dominion’s Gold-certified single “Break Up With Him,” then you probably LOVED the music video just as much!
Well…here’s the inside scoop on what it was really like to star in a music video alongside the Virginia-bred band. Be sure to pre-order their debut album, MEAT AND CANDY on October 2nd. Y’all know it’s gonna be a hit!
Actress Dana Chapman stars in the music video with Old Dominion. Check out our Q&A with her below!
Chasing Country: What’s it really like starring in a country music video?!
Dana: Honestly, one of the most incredible experiences in my career. What’s funny is, I always had this dream to star in a country music video! The Director, Steve Condon, & I have been friends for a long time–he called me up, told me his concept & asked me to be part of it. Steve trusted me enough to execute his vision & as an actress, you can’t ask for a better gift. Next thing I knew, I was being flown out to Nashville! Steve is a brilliant filmmaker; I am so incredibly grateful he invited me to create with him. Now we are at 3M views & counting!
CC: How were the guys of Old Dominion?
Dana: They are the best! We had a blast. They are so humble & appreciative of their newfound success. They have worked tirelessly for over 10 years, I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more. We also bonded over the fact that we hail from neighboring states (Maryland & Virginia) and our love for Kings Dominion.
CC: What did you think of the actual song?
Dana: The song is so much fun! So, I was telling my best friend, Shelley Hennig (who happens to be a huge fan of country music & just starred in The Band Perry’s video), that I was going to shoot the video for BUWH & she screamed! We were on our way to Vegas for a girl’s weekend & she immediately put it on. That was when I heard the song for the first time. To sum it up- BUWH is like riding through the desert, windows down, w/ your best friend singing & at the top of your lungs…just makes you smile.
CC: How long did it take to shoot the full music video?
Dana: We started shooting at 9AM and wrapped at 1AM. It was a long day, but everyone was just honored to be part of something special that was essentially paralleling elements from one of the most iconic films of our time. Once we hit midnight & the delirium set in- tequila helped too!
CC: Do you have a favorite memory from the day?
Dana: Best memory of the day was when we arrived at our 2nd location & the DeLorean was there waiting for us. We all took turns taking pictures in it & posing in front of it. Matt & I couldn’t help taking a few “selfies” while finishing our last scene as well. This particular car was transported in from South Carolina & was an exact replica. The visor was even signed by Michael J. Fox! We are still waiting for him to “retweet” the video. No really- Mr. Fox will you?
CC: Do you have any funny behind the scenes stories?
Dana: When Trevor & I were filming our scene on the stairs, it was nearly impossible for me to keep my laughter contained. We were told, “no sound would be recorded”, so we were saying ridiculous stuff to each other, but with a straight face. His improved dialogue was hysterical & we had to do a few takes before I could get myself together!
I’m just in awe of the kindness & talent OD exudes. I’m excited to watch them on this journey. I think they are going to kill it at the CMAs next year! Dear OD, thanks for the invite in advance. 😉
That certainly sounds like a pretty great filming experience if I do say so myself! Flying to Nashville, hanging with a band AND drinking tequila…now that’s a job I could certainly get into haha! Thanks for sharing, Dana!
